Hic Transit Glorious Venus…

…or something.

For those who are interested and in the UK, the transit of Venus should begin at 0619BST tomorrow, and finish at 1224BST; midpoint is 0822BST-ish; times will vary across the british isles, but only to within a few secconds so it’s not worth documenting here.

Some time ago, after a flight back from the SF Bay Area, I documented how little technology is necessary to make an eclipse observation.

The same should hold true for the transit, using (say) a pinprick in a large piece of foil to create a pinhole-camera; mounting same bit of foil in a cardboard surround will help to stop it bending in the wind. Project the image of the Sun onto a piece of paper taped to a wall, or something.

I shall be doing this, and also using a small spotting-scope to improve on the same trick, taking some digi-photographs of the result.

More later. 😎
