What I don’t understand about the “everything will move to the cloud and the user will need do nothing” brigade…

…is how they can maintain such perspectives in the face of evidence like the 2TB SD-card.

The future of computing is neither in the cloud, nor is it in the desktop / laptop / pocketop / phone; it’s somewhere in between, in fluid platforms that migrate around the web, trailing behind their owner like a familiar but accessible to the world.

  1. Another thing that always amazes me, is that “the cloud will eliminate the need for system administration”. Those who actually believe this, fail to understand that in effect they transform developers into the administrators of the (complex) system they’ve built to run over the cloud. Granted they are not going to worry themselves about servers and stuff, but the whole complex system they’ve built will never leave the developer’s hands. He is going to be the operator too…

  2. Eschew all universals. (Even this one.)
