WikiLeaks is mirroring on Amazon and some people don’t get it?

Cloud Computing to the fore in high-bandwidth information sharing drama!

This is not incompetence. This is smart. If you are about to invite the world to come get some data on the web and you don’t want it to go down, you host it on Amazon, Google, or some other service provider who has the infrastructure to cope. There’s basically no other way to achieve something of this scale and not be killed with alternative storylines of WikiLeaks brought down by demand, how stupid of them not to foresee!

  1. Now, that really *is* cunning.

Before I read your post, I was thinking they’d probably got a deal with the likes of Akamai; however, as they would anticipate that the load from downloads would be a pretty sharp spike, Amazon actually makes more sense, in terms of being able to close the extra server presence down pronto, once d(data)/dt goes seriously negative.

    As you say, *extremely* clever.

It’s nice to see that a little Brit outfit like Netcraft spotted it first, of course :-).
