iPod Photo Cache boosts disk usage by 31%

$ du -skh Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/Originals/ Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/iPod\ Photo\ Cache/
58G Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/
18G Pictures/iPhoto Library/iPod Photo Cache/

So the cache for the iPod – which I am not using – takes up an extra 31% of storage?

Some mistake…

  1. Yup. There is a lot of cruft in OS in general. I find Disk Inventory X a nice tool to visualise what is wasting the space:

    Also if space is tight, try these:

  2. Not sure why you’re seeing such a huge number. In my case the originals occupy 19G, and the iPod Cache (which I *DO* use, assuming that it’s also used for the iPhone) is just 171M, or 0.8%.

    1. I’ve nuked it. Shall see if it reoccurs…
