Examples of real 999 calls

We have real examples of some of the calls our operators have received to demonstrate the nature of the problem of our emergency line receiving calls that are not an emergency matter. The following 999 calls have been given titles that reflect the content of the conversation.

Pigeon – A female caller has dialled 999 to report an injured pigeon.
Social security payments – A male caller has dialled 999 to report that he has not been paid by the DSS
Taxi wanted – A male caller has dialled 999 to ask for our help in getting home from Lockleaze.
Very sore feet – A male caller has dialled 999 to complain about the lack of buses in Crow Lane
Potatoes – A female caller has dialled 999 to request help in finding her spectacles.
