foggy olde england

Went with friends to the local town tonight to go see Matrix Revolutions; weather is definitely getting more wintery over here, closing in, but after parking I met up with Grim, Holly, Nobby, Steve, and eventually Jon and Violette at the Yellow River Cafe, a slightly upmarket a-la carte chinese restaurant on the Reading riverfront.

Dinner was good – thai fishcakes, mee krob, monk’s vegetables and flatbreads – although the decor does go a little bit overboard in homage to their connection to celebrity chef Ken Hom.

The movie itself? Well, I shaln’t spoil it for people who’ve not seen it yet. I am left feeling vaguely unsatisfied for reasons I shall elucidate elsewhen.

The idea we had for recasting it was amusing – Carol Vorderman as “Smith” could be even more terrifying than Hugo Weaving.

Drove back in heavy fog, stopping briefly on the abandoned A33 to check that a guy sitting on the side of the road with a bicycle lying beside him was OK; by the smell of him, I suspect he’d been having a jolly old time before I found him.
