OpenSolaris Update Woes – Funny, Not.

1) cannot upgrade to 2009_06 due to bug http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=1530

2) therefore uninstall “slim” packages, as apparently advised (or, at least, not advised against) by colleague

3) try to uninstall slim packages

4) cannot uninstall slim packages due to dependency

5) uninstall -r slim packages

6) cannot uninstall -r slim packages, inadequate permissions

7) pfexec uninstall -r slim packages

8 ) uninstall decides to delete /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow

9) system wedges

10) fuck this for a game of skittles, i am off to bed

11) power off and live-CD it in the morning, will have to wire a head onto it, BWTF.

  1. well, with no /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow, it’s at least very secure 😉

I had better luck, but I didn’t try upgrading per se. I’ve “updated” packages on my laptop no problem and did a fresh install on my desktop.
