Most of all I am astonished that the paintings were “illegally” hung? There’s a law against hanging paintings in an unauthorised manner? Perhaps there was breaking-and-entering or something, but I doubt the paintings were illegally hung…

    Note that civil torts, though not criminal, are still against the law, and therefore still illegal.
