   Ther Earth’s a sphere, more or less. You can draw a straight (for non-Euclidian values of “straight”) line through any two points on it. Mecca and magnetic North are as good candidates as any. Did you know, for example, that my house is “perfectly aligned” with the location of George Clooney, and that this is true even when he doesn’t stay in the same place. It must mean something. I always knew we two were meant to be together.

   Not sure from the article if they mean using the Time Zone that Mecca is in, or using ‘Arabic Time’, either Traditional (set watch to 12 at Sun down) or Westernized (set watch to 6 at Sun up).

   Given how bad my time keeping is, changing to a system which has a ‘moving’ target (i.e. Sun up or Sun down in Mecca) would probably be a good thing…

   there are times when i’ve wondered why we shouldn’t do away with time zones altogether. Pick a random spot .. middle of the Pacific Ocean, for example, and designate that as TIME.

   The rest of us, worldwide, would accept that, and there would be a one-time change to “hours of operation” for every business. If my “9 to 5” (0900-1700) was shifted to 0300-1100 – local daylight – then I’d never again have to care about how many hours to add/subtract as I deal with others on the globe.

   I’m guessing there might be one or two (!) minor issues which I haven’t foreseen, but that can wait for TIME 2.0 right?
