Distributions, distributions everywhere, nor any patch to fix…

I’ll take this “under advisement” – they have a point, but this glibness of this advice is likely to be recycled as urban legend for years to come – and the way they bury the “Digital SLRs with more than 6Mpix are OK” comment is atrocious.

(1) I wouldn’t call that thread OSs for really old computers, they’re mostly talking Pentiums with one mention of a 486 (which is still a “modern” x86 processor) and a 286.
The 286, in my view, is the only one which could be considered to even verging on the really old.
Now, if they were talking PDP8 or maybe the 8080, now THAT would be getting into the really old category.
(2) The Fuji Finepix F30… There is a newer version of this camera with slightly uprated electronics and firmware but the same sensor and optics, the F31fd (it has face detection).
As for the megapixel rush. Even with DSLRs you’re getting to or at the point where defraction effects and the optics are becoming more of a limitation than raw sensor resolution. The main problem, however, is the fact that the sensors for the three colours are discrete spacially and are hence seeing different parts of the projected image.
