Beirut is indeed impressive. The founder of the project was around 19 when he recorded his album, entirely in his bedroom in New Mexico. Apparently he got into Eastern European brass-band music when backpacking through Europe, and spending a night partying with a Serbian band who happened to be staying in the room next to his.
Anyway, Beirut (which is now a proper band) will be playing at the Roundhouse in Camden in November.
Brilliant… but I had to watch it twice, the second time with my eyes shut, so that I wasn’t distracted…..

Is it just me or does the lead singer look like Michael J. Fox?
For one or another reason the title “elephant gun” made me think of something more akin to “spud gun” than to “hunting rifle”…
