Just back from Minibar London – it was nice, I wish there had been more speakers, but the guy from Moo.com was amusing, as was the chap from the company beginning with “Z” who were doing something about search for real-estate/lettings and other things… er, yeah, well I was at the back and the audio could have done with some more punch. Having the slides up somewhere would be good.
Met some interesting folk including Dirk Van Quaquebeke, who’s a self-confessed “backer” who is looking for a geek to sort out his website for an online made-to-measure suit service… and there was free beer, and I got to chat to a bunch of guys who’d heard of me before (gosh that’s getting rarer nowadays) and demoed ZFS to them – including Joel (below) who wanted to be referred to as the “baddest person at the Minibar”. And so he was. 🙂
One of the blonde blurs below was apparently Amanda Lorenzani off my Twitter feed, but alas I didn’t get the chance to chat. And there was the guy who wanted to know the difference between ZFS and Linux GIT (chalk & cheese, filesystem & Mutant-CVS-on-steroids) and one of the Plan9 file systems (Perhaps Fossil & Venti, can’t remember and I’m not fit to comment). He’s moving to Farnborough soon, and would like to meet other geeks – presumably for conversation and more geekery.
It was a nice night. I look forwards to the next one – and riding back to Waterloo on the Brompton at that time of night, was a hoot.
