What American accent do you have?

Apparently I have a Northeastern American accent, possibly New York.

Mmm.

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

You’re “I won’t let commenters do HTML” position means I can’t post my results which are very similar. Possibly the test is not discrimiante enough to determine British accents. I bet their por at Aussies too. I’m NE, strong Philly accent.

Yep, looks like the British all come from Philly. 🙂

    Dude…West Coast.

The only proper way to speak Am-English.

For the brits they should have had things like:

    How do you say right?

Right (the right..er..correct way, like the Wright Brother) or Roit (like the Voit)

That’ being said, there’s nothing better to listen to than a southern drawl from a southern belle.

I’ve took this quiz out of curiosity and got the same Northeast result. But the interesting thing is that I’m not even a native English speaker (Hungarian and Romanian)…

It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s suggested that British English permeates the Continent far more than American English, so I presume a lot of non-British European speakers of English would likewise gravitate “northeastward”?

Hardly surprising since lots of so-called scholarly research purports to show that Bostonian English sounds much more like what 18th Century English spoken in England sounded like than anything that’s spoken there today.

However, I’d like to carve out a special circumstance for my little corner of Western Pennsylvania, whose quiz might go something like this:

Does the word “wash” rhyme “Porsche (omit final e)?” Does the word “color” rhyme with “yeller?” Do you think the big town upriver used to be famous for its ‘still mills?” Do you remember Petula Clark’s great hit “DahnTahn?” Are you “flustrated” when things don’t go your way? Do you have any “hunert dowar” bills in your wallet? Do you think “pitchers” do more than hold “melk?”

If so, your probably from Worshington Cahnty, PA. And right now, you’re plenty flustrated, because your favorite ChamPEEN football team from upriver(the Stillers) is stinking up dahntahn, and people are probably losing hunderts (if not thahsands) of dowers on them every week and all the keller pitchers in the paper this morning showed the opposing team scoring points. There is no joy in Mudville . . . . (see links for “Casey at the Bat” since Alec won’t let me put a hyperlink in here) . . . Baseball, not football, but same idea.

See Weez – you *can* put hyperlinks here.

Or HTTP URLs, at any rate, shorn of their magic.

If I need to justify my banning of h-t-t-p-colon-slash-slash from blog comments, consider my spamtrap for the past 31 hours since I last emptied it:

    * rejected 1483 spam comments due to attempting POST comment data to the wrong fieldname

    * rejected further 3435 spam comments due to symptomatic postername==subjectline formatting of a popular comment spam tool

    * rejected further 1371 spam comments due to inclusion of http-colon-slash-slash

    * rejected further 10 spam comments due to excessive / extra HTML fields

    * rejected further 23 spam comments due to citation of painkillers / drugs

…which comes out at approximately 1 comment-spam attempt every 18 seconds, all day, every day.

THAT is why you suffer not being able to post URLs; frankly you can work out it very easily whereas the method wholly defeats the point of comment spamming. 🙂

    How English Are You?

I got that up to 90% first time, and 97% when I corrected for my Devonian practice of cream-first, rather than the more notorious Cornish one of jam-first.

I can’t work out where the spare 3% has gone, though.
