Bloglines Question?

I have a colleague – Chris the mad cyclist – who reads DropSafe via BlogLines.

He tells me that viewing the RSS feed via BlogLines does not resolve the relative URLs in the links so that they link through to www.crypticide.com.

Could someone test this for me please?

Here is a direct link: direct

Here is a relative link: relative

In my mental universe, both of these things should work off BlogLines; if not, then it is either a BlogLines bug, or I should presumably be adding some extra “BASE” url to my RSS2.0 feed.

I just don’t know which. Does anyone?

    I also read via bloglines.

The direct link comes through as: http http://www.crypticide.com/alecm/albums/artwork/__660h-lily-jump.html

The relative link comes through as: http bloglines.com/alecm/albums/artwork/__660h-lily-jump.html

That’s true of most aggregators and newsreaders. There’s no defined behavior for relative links, since RSS technically doesn’t specify if the description tag is HTML or plain text or anything else.

Newsreaders that make some assumption and alter links are going way outside the spec.

I just make sure to use absolute URLs for all links on my blog, it’s the only safe and consistent behavior.
