Martin Conquest: Motorbike/trike for the disabled

“Our recent launch of The Conquest is the culmination of a three-year dream to provide mobility to disabled former motorcyclists and disabled aspiring motorcyclists.

“The Conquest is based on the BMW R-Series motorcycle and is the first mass-produced high performance tricycle available in the UK that can be driven from a wheelchair. The Conquest’s second unique feature is that it has a reverse gear.

Putting the gear matter to one side (the Goldwing also has one) I think this is a great idea.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the interest.

you’re quite right, the Conquest is not unique in having a reverse gear, the Goldwing has the ability to travel in reverse. I’m not sure that it is actually a ‘reverse’ gear though, or an electric motor.

However, what might be unique in our favour, is that the Conquest has 6 reverse gears !! Ha.

The motorcycle gearbox drives through a differential and by reversing the direction of drive, all gears are available and at all speeds. Nobody has tested the reverse beyond 30mph. In use, the reverse is as effective as the reverse on a car and is not just a parking aid.

    Hope that helps.
