Photo Journalism: Useless Cycle Lanes

[news.bbc.co.uk]

We asked for photos of bizarre bike lanes. Peter Owens, who runs Warrington Cycle Campaign’s tongue-in-cheek Facility of the Month site, says this is a personal favourite.

Some of the results are truly bizzare, check the link.

I am one of the “just because there’s a cycle lane does not mean it’s safe to use it” people, and I think these photos bear that out; strangely some folk are suggesting that where a cycle lane is provided it must be used.

I disagree, but then I disagreed with the idea of banning off-road vehicles (4×4, dirtbikes, quadbikes) from RUPP Green Lanes – yet somehow various vested interests forced that one through, too.

I wonder what the cycle lobby’s stance was on that one…
