“BBC News: From #SeaShanty #TikTok to a record deal” – with this, the @WhatsApp policy goof, the rise of @Twitch, @Discord, @SignalApp, @Telegram, & @Reddit moving markets, we should stop calling @Facebook a “monopoly”

Someone very clever will surely remind me that “under US law you don’t have to lack competition to be a monopoly, you have to exhibit monopolistic power” – true, but also even if it were exhibited the “mere possession of monopoly power does not violate section 2 [of the Sherman Act]” – which says this.

Facebook has a lot to fear from competition, the competition can and will arise in a flash, and it will come from platforms that the children and grandchildren of our legislators are using, rather than the legislators themselves.

BBC News – From Sea Shanty TikTok to a record deal

Scottish postie Nathan Evans has quit his job and signed to a record label after storming TikTok with sea shanties. Nathan said the singalong craze for his The Wellerman rendition exploded in just a matter of weeks. And Friday sees an official release of the shanty, after he was picked up by Polydor records. The 26-year-old from Airdrie said it goes to show that if you keep going anything can happen.
