within days, civil society nerds find a circumvention for the mitigation, calls for outrage to be directed at “insufficient” mitigation, demands “[platform] needs to do more!” and starts a {campaign, petition, hashtag} using it to seek {new membership, funding}
<repeat previous two steps until media is saturated & everyone is bored>
[problem ceases to be a problem, for the moment]
[political entity, probably somewhere in the EU] publishes draft punitive regulation which incidentally obligates government surveillance of everyone
[N years later] journalist discovers [the problem] in [new platform]
