Prediction: within 2 years there will be a backlash against the social media ban in Australia, but not the one you expect

Simply: kids are going to circumvent or skirt the ban by using VPNs, but because of Aussie censorship & fear of getting in trouble they will not report abuse. Some kid will then be abused, abducted, or commit suicide, and there will be calls for deeper crackdown.

The only way to avoid this is to reverse it.

  1. @alecm I mean, it’s kind of good for the kids in one way: they need a “what the hell are these people in power doing?” moment to realise most of our elected politicians are not actually well informed, well advised, competent people who always work for the good of the people. I remember the moment I truly realised this (it was around broadband policy back then), I was in university and had already voted in my first election!
