Von der Leyen Pushes EU Online Speech Crackdown in 2025 | EU wants to ban European under-16s from social media

So much popcorn:

Despite the existing Digital Services Act already mandating age verification (and therefore digital ID) online, von der Leyen floated a new, even more restrictive direction for internet access among young people. Drawing inspiration from Australia’s controversial 2024 Online Safety Amendment, which includes a social media ban for those under 16, she suggested the EU could move toward similar rules.

What are the consequences for parents who gladly help their under 16 yo kids create accounts anyway?

Surely it will leak out to their peers, then those kids’ parents will be on the receiving end of lots of begging and claims of how “John and Jane are on xyz platform! Why can’t I? You hate me! I hate you!”

Then those parents will snitch on the first set of parents who got their kids online.
