Attached, from the comments; I personally am reserving judgement until we see what systemic issues may exist in RCS due to a) its collective upbringing, & b) government pressure:

It took a massive hack of US carriers networks to finally make Apple realize that ALL text messages needed to be encrypted and that cross platform SMS/MMS vulnerability still means there’s an attack surface for bad actors to exploit.

  1. @alecm I don't think that's necessarily the timeline for Apple announcing support? Apple said in June 2024 that it would be implementing the (forthcoming) GSMA spec for E2EE (rather than using a vendor-specific profile). Salt Typhoon story was later, in August. (Although I obviously don't know when Apple knew about it.)
