Emilio Scotto’s Website

When Emilio Scotto (Argentina) was nine years old, he told his mother, tomorrow, I am going to travel around the world. She laughed, and replied, tomorrow, you are going to school, but from that day on, he set his mind on wandering the planet, he bought atlases and maps and was certain that one day his dream would become a reality. At 30, Emilio Scotto quit his job, got on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, affectionately named “the black princess”, and with $300 headed down the street.

Emilio had never left Argentina, but he had such faith that this seemingly reckless move would transform him into the man he wanted to be. Emilio Scotto circumnavigated the planet both clockwise and anticlockwise consecutively, travelling the equivalent distance to to the moon and back to earth, visiting 214 countries and 28 territories.

His motorcycle used the original motor plus one spare, 9 seats, 12 batteries, 700 litres of oil, 42,000 litres of gasoline and 86 tyres. Scotto filled 11 passports of 64 pages each. Along the way he learned 5 languages, was imprisoned 6 times, he was arrested on suspicion of drug dealing, of being a Russian spy, and of being an agent for Libyan leader Colonel Gadhafi; he was accused of being a Rwandan spy, encountered cannibals and contracted malaria. His girlfriend, Monica, joined him in India, and they were married in a Hindu ceremony, before traveling on together.

Finally, on April 2, 1995, he returned to Argentina and a hero s welcome, after 10 years, 2 months and 19 days on the road. The former president of Argentina said on his return “stories of tenacity and courage like Emilio’s make not only one country proud, but the entire world”.

There is some controversy arising regarding the authenticity of this record. The last ten month section from Canada through the Caribean and South America is the most obvious discrepency as 155,000 km’s, in ten months, is said to have been ridden on a journey that is most likely only 45,000 km’s, whilst visiting over 40 unvisited countries, of which at least 30 are islands, travelling at the rate of over 500 km a day? Further details of this discrepency can be found using the Google search engine, subject, Emilio Scotto

By the end of the “Introduction” I was hooked. I expected the intro to aquaint me with the author and define the beginning of his trip and the reasons for it. I could not have been more in error. By the time I completed these beginning pages I was convinced he’d never make it. Even if you have never even seen a motorcycle, you will be enthralled by this story. Amazing courage, a guardian angel, and uncommon good luck are a part of each paragraph. Don’t miss this great story

It seems Emilio has gone around distributing the exact same speech and text to self promote himself and feed his ego. He will happily talk to anybody willing to elevate him and feed his egomanistic spirit. What he will not do is either hold a job and actually work for a living or provide factual data to sustain his claims of dubious accomplishments. In my opinion (shared by many others on the web and around the world, is that Emilio is a creation of his own imagination and self promotion. Emilio, the web is open for you to actually PROVE any of your claims.

    he best ride report ever?
This is the best book on motorcycle adventure travel I have read so far. It’s about this crazy Argentinian who sets out to ride around the world on an 1100 GoldWing (!), with hardly any riding skills, and even less mechanical skills. He starts out carrying “everything” (up to and including full scuba gear!), but gets robbed of it all after a few days. The rest of us would…

  4. Anthony, above, is Anthony Hamms who is boosting for the book elsewhere on the ‘net; either the book changed his life, or he’s an astroturfer.
