Webservers that still have a Sun logo for their favicon.ico

Here’s a silliness that I’ve meant to publish/collate for some time; a lot of webservers – post installation – never get their favicon.ico file updated; from my perspective this manifests itself as visiting a (usually commercial) URL and being surprised to see a small Sun Microsystems logo pop-up in the URL bar of my browser – at which point you know from where they got their webserver.

I’ve always meant to get around to collating these things, but never quite pulled it together; having found another this morning, this seems an opportune moment to blog it:

…and then add the remainder/updates into the “comments”.

Time for a web crawler to go and and find them all Alec.

I was considering that – I am quite certain that there must be a way to drive google to “return all URLs for which the MD5 checksum is […]” – which would solve the problem at a stroke; but I’ll bet that they on’t advertise that functionality…

    Searching by MD5

I suggested that to Google, er, 2 years ago or something, but nothing ever happened about it.

It would damn useful at times (like when trying to fix peoples Windoze systems)!

Two birds with one stone: http http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld199900/ldhansrd/pdvn/lds05/text/50321-18.htm

Not only does the House of Lords Hansard site still have the iPlanet ‘swoosh’, but this entry contains a rather good attack on the UK IDentity Card proposals.
