Our old Baxi died on Sunday evening; it was briefly resurrected by an engineer the morning after, but it was also clearly beyond its useful lifetime and so today — amazingly, at short notice — it’s being replaced with a ATAG iR15 condenser which comes with an 18 year warranty.

By that point heat pumps will probably be mandatory and may have actually dropped in price to something less exotic.

Obligatory banter: I was asking for general advice on replacing all the TRVs in the house and the engineer was asking if I would be interested in “smart” ones; I replied “hell no, I do computer security and want something which functions with as little dependency on tech as possible.”
