Eccleston quits Doctor Who role

[news.bbc.co.uk]

Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit as Doctor Who after just one episode of the new series has been screened, the BBC has confirmed.

Solution: Make Billie Piper the next Doctor; a simple bodyswap plot will suffice, with a messed-up regeneration.

No?

I’m with Tom Baker on this one: Eddie Izzard would make a fantastic Doctor.

A female Doctor would be interesting, though could Billie play a convincing Doctor? I.e., could she change her character’s persona so convincingly to not come across as the chavette from episode 1 wearing a different hat?

Btw, my vote’s with Eddie Izzard too.

Recalling the Doctor Who spoof done for Comic Relief a couple of years back, I’d suggest modifying the “bodyswap and regeneration” plot a little so that some ageing of the character enables another actress to step into the role – while Billie makes a fine Assistant, I’m not sure she could cut it as the Doctor yet.

Joanna Lumley, on the other hand… 😉

Interesting idea … after all, “Sapphire and Steel” sets a precedent for her…
