I heard it in West Coast data centers in the 2000’s so it might have been a bit more ubiquitous but I don’t hear it called that any more..

More likely a PSUK thing. Here at PSNL we just called them tie wraps.

I remember the term, but as I worked at Sun in the UK at the same time as you, that’s not really very surprising. However, I’ve always called them cable-ties.
